What were some important inventions of the 1920-1940s and how did they affect the people of the era? Maddy Hilkemeier English III H 9 Oct. 2015 Period 2 “Hundreds of items were invented in the 20th century, changing the way the world operated. Many of these inventions seem benign now, while others served as precursors to advanced models” (Richard). The book To Kill a Mockingbird was written in the mid-1930s and it was during this era that many useful items were invented. During this time there was a rapid increase of innovations that ranged anywhere from the game of monopoly to a wooden bathing suit, or something more efficient such as LDS medicine.
In my point of view, living in Canada between 1914 - 1929 would have some gratifying events and a few dreadful ones too. I will be justifying this statement with five specific events, Vimy Ridge, Winnipeg General Strike, Chinese Exclusion Act, creation of the first batteryless radio and the Stock Market Crash. The first circumstance would be Vimy Ridge April 9, 1917. This would be one of the exceptional events that happened between 1914-1929.
In the 1600`s century Virginia was full of wealthy plantation owners who all bought land in the tidewater area in Virginia. The governor at that time was Sir William Berkeley. Berkeley limited voting to people who owned property; he also exempted himself and his councilors from taxation. Due to his actions it sparked burning anger from the backcountry farmers who live west of the tidewater area. Moreover, many backcountry farmers wanted to expand their land and many free indentured servants wanted land too, but the only land available near Virginia is the Native American territory.
Great- Britain’s wealth is great. The people enterprising, and preserving in their attempts to extend and enlarge and protect their trade. The case is very different for the colonies. They have no trade but under the protection of Great-Britain. Also, they cannot trade nowhere but where Great-Britain pleases.

This era introduced new music, cultures, and inventions. This period of time focused a lot on prohibition, social changes, the stock market crash, The Great Depression, and a high unemployment rate.
What Life is really like in the colonies Recently, the London Chronicle has declared two statements about what’s happening in the colonies, “Study Shows Farmers Spend Several Hours Playing Cards” and “Unemployment Rises in Cities-Colonists Return to Mother Country”. However, through thorough investigation into the life of the colonists, it’s been brought to attention that these statements may have been inaccurately headlined by the chronicle. The London Chronicle could have easily outwitted and deceived the colonists.
According to the explanation, the author proposes that it is the melting of sea ice caused by global warming that results in the decline of the number of Arctic deer. However, unless she offers further additional evidence to strengthen her argument, the conclusion can remain, at best, unwarranted. To begin with, although some local hunters report that the deer population seems to be decreasing, it doesn’t necessarily mean that deer are really less than before. Clearly, the author assumes that the report by hunters is reliable.
The Golden Age emerged after the Persians were defeated in war. It laid the foundations of western civilization where advancements in areas such as art, literature, poetry and philosophy were made. One circumstance that led to the end of the Athenian Golden Age was the murderous war between Athens and Sparta ( Barrett, n,d). During the time of the Golden age the two most powerful city states were Athens and Sparta. Athens wanted to be stronger and Sparta wanted to weaken Athens.
The Victorian Era began when Queen Victoria came into throne in 1831 and ended when she passed away in 1901(Lang -Sean 297). During this period in time things were different than they are today. Children’s lives were different, education, religions and the types of diseases. Many say that the Victorians were the ones who put science and technology on pedestal go , as well as religion.
The time period from the end of World War II through 1960 in American history is known as the golden age. This was a great time for America, one because the war was ending, and also because America was experiencing great economic growth. For the first time since 1929, the beginning of the Great Depression, Americans could afford many new items that they weren’t able before. This time also showed incomes raising for more people to afford homes. Overall, life was great for people during this time period.
The new women were independent, bright-eyed alert and alive eager to gain new freedom (p.1035). Tradition women wore petticoat and floor length dresses whereas the new women wore skirts that stop at the knee with minimal undergarments. Flappers went to bars and drank publicity, they experiment with premarital sex whereas the traditional womanhood this was unspeakable sex was something that was between a married couples. The new women symbolized the new liberated women of the 1920s. (p.1036) more middle class women attended college in the 1920s than ever before, many women were recruited for jobs that usually held my men.
Victorian Era Entertainment The Victorian Era lasted for 64 years while Queen Victoria reigned. Entertainment was a huge part of this time because they did not have the modern technology we have today to keep them amused. The Victorians had many forms of entertainment such as sports, different pastimes, toys, and many various hobbies. There are many different eras throughout the years, but the victorian era is by far the most interesting.
In 1474, the term Great Britain was developed because of a marriage proposal between Edward IV of England's daughter, Cecily, and James IV of Scotland. However, the term today is used to refer to the largest island within the UK. “The island of Great Britain has been inhabited by early humans for at least 500,000 years (Briney, 2017).” A land bridge was used for humans to cross from the continental Europe at that time. 30,000 modern humans have been in Great Britain, until 12,000 years ago (Briney, 2017).
Victorian Era The Victorian Era lasted about 63 years, ranging from the 18th to the 19th century. Full of dance, literature, art, and music. Granted some of those things did not flourish as well as others, but are still just as great when it comes to the entertainment factor of the Victorian era. MUSIC, Most music in the Victorian era was found in music halls or saloons, meaning, that music was one of the things that did not take off as well as art or literature.
A golden age is a period of time when an empire thrives. It thrives socially, economically, and politically. Both Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome experienced a golden age. Ancient Rome’s Golden Age was called the Pax Romana. Pax Romana means “roman peace”.
