Around the mekong river, there is lots of wildlife and plants. Vietnam is lush in plant life, and has almost twelve thousand species of plants in its forests, and that's only counting the identified ones! Many of these plants are used for commercial purposes and medicine purposes. These dense forests that are in the highlands are known as the triple canopy jungles, since the tree growth reaches three different levels. In these forests, vietnam has almost 273 species of mammals, and 180 species of reptiles, including elephants and tigers! Vietnam has a very interesting climate as well, with fluctuating weather. There is a wet season in between May to September, which it rains almost everyday, or every other day. This causes lots of flooding, which makes the rivers rise and flood. This can be a good thing. After the water lowers, it leaves fresh and fertile silt for farmers, which is why many farmers tend to live near lakes. The downside is that during the flooding, the farmers plants tend to drown if you live too close to the lake. The central highlands of vietnam are hilly, and have many mountains in the far northwest.
