In its initial years, the Vietnam War had huge amounts of help originating from US citizens. We thought that the war would not take long at all and would make new American Casualties. Their thoughts started to change once they understood that the legislature had sugar coated how "well" the war was going when in actuality, it wasn't looking good. Major offensive attacks were launched by the Viet Cong on major bases. It was a decision of good or bad for the administration, their decision was constantly awful.

The United States did not agree with the spread of communism so they sided with South Vietnam. The U.S happened to get involved due to wanting to stop the war because they didn’t want it to spread. It impacted the world due to it being the first war to become televised and people were upset because people were dying.
The Vietnam War was fought between the North and South Vietnamese over Communism. The North pushed for a communist regime while the South favored a more democratic government. During the time of this war, the U.S. was pushing towards containing Communism, and vowed to support any nation resisting communism. Although America’s policy of containment had good intentions, this often led to the support of corrupt leaders and governments. President Ngo Dinh Diem of South Vietnam was Catholic and did not lead well.
The title of this group of stories is not solely based on the physical burdens the men had to carry through Vietnam but the mental and emotional issues they are stuck with after the war.
It was 1965 and the first U.S. troops were landing in South Vietnam, there were 3,500 U.S. Marines added to the already 25,000 advisers in the country. This war would define how we view life for decades and generations. Most people thought it was a mistaken war with no purpose other than to stop the flow of communism in Asia and the fear of others would follow, and add to the strength of the Soviet Union during the height of the cold war. Some people turned the war into a racist battle ground to justify the uprising and protest against the war. The troops were poorly armed and on average fought 240 days a year when compared to WW2 with only 40 days a year for infantrymen.
The Vietnam War was one of the longest lasting conflicts in American history starting on November 1st, 1955. Dwight Eisenhower began the United States' involvement with the Vietnam War by creating the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization to help squelch communist uprisings in the area. With conflicts growing between the Communist North Vietnamese and the anti- Communist South Vietnamese the U.S sent the first troops in 1965 to aid in stopping the spread of Communism. Even after 41 years of the war being over people still debate the legality of the vietnam war. Some say under the international laws of war it was legal and just for America to intervene with the conflict.
The Vietnam War started when French invaded Vietnamese territory and took it as their colony in 1887. Later in 1954, Vietnam was officially split into North(communist) and South(capitalist) Vietnam. The Viet Minh was the communist group who wanted to declare independence from France. The U.S did not want communism to be spread and that was the reason why they joined the war and supported the South. For the United States, a communist Vietnam meant the spread of the Soviet Union influence abroad the Asia’s territory (domino theory).

Substance Abuse in Returning Combat Veterans Returning combat veterans have difficulties contributing to our society based on their problems with substance abuse. There is an issue of returning combat veterans not being able to afford treatment for their illnesses, so they resort to self-medicating and use drugs and alcohol. Although it is worth considering that some combat veterans manage to escape their addiction for some time, but will usually end up relapsing and only hurt themselves more. We may also be concerned about some combat veterans not being able to adjust to their new lives and resorting to substance abuse a method of stress relief.
Veterans Day Veterans Day is an official holiday we celebrate on November 11th, we celebrate all those living and dead who served in the US armed forces. The formal name of Veterans day was Armistice day and was changed to Veteran’s day by President Eisenhower in 1954. The first Veterans day celebrated was on November 11th 1919, a year after World War I ended. Veterans day started when there was an agreement signed in 1918 on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to end World War I. Veteran’s Day is often confused with Memorial day but Memorial day is honoring the past military and Veteran’s day honors all, living and dead.
The first Vietnam War also known as a part of the first Indochina war was a long fought battle between the French and Viet Minh that started only a year after World War two in December 1946 until August 1954. For the Vietnamese, this was a battle for independence because as representatively and authentically stated by Vo Nguyen Giap, the Viet Minh military leader during the war “nothing is more precious than freedom”. Hence, by exploring the causes, outcomes and consequences of the war, it will be argued that the Viet Minh were able to defeat the French due to the French underestimating the Viet Minh’s guerrilla warfare techniques combined with the support that the Vietnamese people provided the Viet Minh with. The Vietnam war was a battle fought from 1955 to 1975, a long and difficult time for Vietnam and the countries who helped. Once Vietnam was divided up, and because of their ways of government, problems started to arise and eventually spread to other countries who also had issues with the communists.
The Vietnam War greatly changed views of America Forever. The main reason for the U.S. involvement into the Vietnam War was to stop the spread of communism. But it was not worth fighting in for many reasons. One, this wasn’t a U.S. concern because Vietnam’s internal Conflict and government problems didn’t clearly affect America. Another reason is that it is said the the cost of the war during the time was $111 which should have affected the United States choice to enter the war.
During the Vietnam war soldiers took many sacrifices, including leaving their families and being outkast’s in society. But during the war they made really good friendships. The Vietnam war made people lose their lives, friends, and families. Many people didn 't support the war so they protested, and when the soldiers came back from war they were treated like outcasts. In the novel “The Things They Carried,” by Tim O’Brien, the book shows the themes friendship and sacrifice through key details like when someone dies they still remain friends even though they had a sacrifice.
