Violence in school, apart from shootings, is a widespread problem affecting thousands of children annually. The National Center for Education reports, in its most recent study from 2017, that 750,000 victimizations occur each year on school campuses. These types of crimes include bullying, fights, hate crimes involving race or sexual identity, and assault, both simple and serious. Lack of a weapon and serious injury indicate simple assault. Robbery, rape/sexual assault and aggravated assault are examples of serious violent victimizations. The Daily Wire’s article, “ACADEMIC STUDY: Schools Are Significantly Safer Today Than In 1990s” relates the single perspective that because school shootings are extremely rare, schools are, therefore, safer
