Violet's Flaws In Society

Violet has consistently kept her personal identity separate from the feed. On a daily basis, Violet disagrees and tests the feeds values. When Violet was little she grew up in a family that wasn't as fortunate as other families living in this society. Violet got the feed later than most kids because her family couldn’t afford it. Her dad raised her to value school and knowledge which set Violet apart from the others. Not having the feed has made Violet different and has had an impact on her identity. This can be seen when Violet is talking to everyone she states,
“The two big imaginary lines are one down the center of the face and on just across the top of the cheeks. This is my theory, anyway. The nose is where those lines intersect. The …show more content…

This shows because Violet’s brain functions at a higher rate she struggles to connect with other people in this society. Considering Violet has advanced vocabulary it is easier for people to acknowledge the characteristic differences Violet has compared to other people. Consequently, because Violet sees all the flaws in society it’s harder for her to fit in. In this society being different is not an acceptable lifestyle and that is why many people undoubtedly accept the feed. Since the characters notice a barrier between them and Violet both Violet and the characters find it hard to connect on a higher level. Violet is a peculiar but refreshing character in this society, with this being said she has substantial reasons for why she rejects the feed. Not only is Violet’s vocabulary different, she also recognizes the impact the feed has on people’s brain. Violet regularly consumes the thought that the feed has a negative impact on the brain's function. This can be seen when Violet states, “Look at us! You don’t have the feed! You are feed! You’re feed! You’re being eaten! You’re raised for food” (202). With this being said, Violet observes people changing themselves to follow trends, she notices people consuming unneeded and unuseful items just for the sensation of buying things. Nevertheless, being different has made Violet appreciate and acknowledge that she is her own person. This has made her perpetually display her personal identity and knowledge to enforce that the feed hasn’t changed her. If Violet had accepted the feed and didn’t grow up in the life she did, she would have different values and beliefs making her just like everybody else. Also, Violet is continually being destroyed by the feed and then the feed finally takes her over. Although she doesn’t allow the feed to change her identity, the feed still slowly takes over the power
