Safety is an important factor in sports especially in hockey. Since this is the case should college hockey players have to wear cages or be allowed the privilege of wearing visors. It also brings up the point that college students should be allowed to wear visors because of the risk it puts the players into. However, both sides have great arguments but I feel the visors take the cake here. Safety is important that’s why college players should be allowed to wear visors. Visors are the better choice for college students to be wearing because, they focus on college students with most of there reasonings. USA hockey even says college players should allow visors and all of the upsides to them. “Guys our age wear them in Canada so I don’t see why college teams can’t do it” (Derek Stephan1). To sum up the visors have more upsides then cages do. “its been noted that American college hockey is the only level of the sport where players over the age of 18 must wear full facial protection” (jess Myers1). Although the cage supporters have good points the visors are still taking the cake. If the players have visors on they will be able to fight atracting more fans and crowds to games. Fighting is penalized with a five-minute major and a game disqualification, meaning that the offending player is out of that game and the next game. If college players had visors they would have to change that rule so players wouldn’t be kicked out of the next game. since NHL player don’t have this rule then the college students wouldn’t either. High hits and highstick to pucks in the face will all start more injuries and will need to be taken seriously because it will all be new to the visor playes. This is a serious thing that cant be just a joke to the kids playing. Getting hit high is a big deal that can lead to injuries. from concussions to bleeding it’s a serious matter. Matt Calvert was hit in the face with a slapshot this season and had to leave and get 36 stitches in his face. However, the pro visors have good reasoning we believe the cages are the better choice. Will visors cost the team more money to wear them? If the college teams are allowed to wear visors then they would have to get a medic in the locker room or on the bench is a play goes wrong and the player needs to be operated on. Each team must have a minimum of 2 team physicians in attendence at games. If NHL players need two team Physicians then college teams would need atleast one. From here on you need to think about the bad sides of allowing college teams to wear
