Performing arts have set high standards, made Costa Rica very popular, and have become a way for people to express themselves. There are many different types of performing arts, some being dance, music, and theater. There are more theater companies per capita in Costa Rica than any other country in the world. People express themselves through acting, music, and dance. No matter which production (puppetry, comedy, mime, drama, etc.) each show is very inexpensive. The price of going to the theater once a week in Costa Rica for a year is equal to the price of going to one Broadway show. People can save a lot money this way! The theaters are also very welcoming to tourists, most of the shows are easy to understand even if a tourist cannot speak Spanish. Also, the most famous type of music in Costa Rica is classical music. Classical music was started in Costa Rica, in 1970, by the National Orchestra Symphony.
