It is important for someone to have an extensive vocabulary; you should not put a cap on your vocabulary. Malcolm X in his autobiography describes how he went into prison having an awful vocabulary and not being able to write in a straight line. He admired another inmate because of his knowledge and how; when he started a conversation; he took charge every time. Not only is it good to have a broad vocabulary but, it comes with power. The saying, “The Pen Is Mightier than the Sword” is exceptional because it express that you do not need direct violence to conquer but you can defeat with your mind. This all begun when Malcolm would strain to read books in prison and as he would read he ran into trouble with the words. “But every book I picked up had few sentences which didn’t contain anywhere from one to nearly all of the words that might as well have be in Chinese”. He was ashamed that the person he be envious of and wanted to mimic; he couldn’t, he could barely read. His decision to develop his language made him one of the most influential people in history. It is amazing all of what Malcolm did; he would read books and have a dictionary by his side so, he was able to look up the words he did not know. Later on he grabbed a dictionary and began to copy every single word in the dictionary; while doing so he also improved his penmanship. This man was devoted to learn and develop his skills; every morning he woke up thinking about the words he already learned the night before. He began to read everyday all because he build up his vocabulary and reading became favorable now that he understood
