The social issue that I picked is homelessness. Homelessness is a real issue, even if we don’t always see it. Homelessness doesn’t just mean you don’t have a roof over your head, it means you don’t have food, a good education, a healthy lifestyle, or a warm place to sleep every night. Some people don’t think very highly about homeless people, they think that it's their fault that they are where they are in life. Homelessness is going to end up becoming a bigger problem.
“Across the country, about 9.6 million families sThere are two major problems in our country that are being very overlooked; poverty and homelessness. They both are very common problems in America that should come to an end. There is no doubt that they can be stopped with the help of the government and other everyday people. All that needs to be done is help out with expensive housing, start initiatives for insurance, create more shelters, take more notice to the rural homelessness, and just reach out to actually understand how large this problem is.
Homelessness ,an American Problem] [Homelessness is serious problem that America has come to face. Millions of people including families ,children, elder, babies , veterans live day after day without water ,food or a roof over their heads. The number of homeless, families with children and elder has considerably over the past decade or so. They are together the fast, growing portion of the homeless population. There are together almost 40% of all people who are homeless.
There are over 600,000 homeless people in America today. This has become a big issue over time that needs attention. No one likes to see people in need, struggling to make a living. Homelessness in America is constantly being talked about, but no one makes a move to help all of those people who need it. There are a lot of problems that come with homelessness, such as finding a way to fund this project, how are the homeless going to be helped in the meantime, and how are they going to be assisted after they find decent homes.
Homelessness is not a new problem and for years the government has made efforts towards decreasing the rate of homelessness in America. During the 1980’s, the voices of the homeless were finally heard. In 1987, The McKinney Homeless Assistance Act of 1987 was created.
Did you know that California is known to be a state that holds one of the highest rankings for homeless population? Well, I have recently researched and a lot of the rankings for states containing the most destitute people, and I had the impression that California would be at least with one of the top 5 states. And my judgment with this topic was proven correct with most of the sources I have used to congregate data from. For instance, a study published in 2009 discusses the importance of understanding the different aspects of this population in order to effectively help end youth homelessness. The study notes that are two typical forms of youth homelessness: children living in homeless families and unaccompanied youth. The first group, children living in homeless families, is essentially children who “live in families without a home” (Aratani, 2009, p. 4). Unaccompanied youth, then include those who are runaways, throwaways, and independent youth who have no contact with their family. Additionally, there is a multitude of factors that have been known to contribute to homelessness.
However, there is a close relationship between healthcare and the homeless population, in that most of the homeless population does not have access to good healthcare. According to a report by the National Coalition for the Homeless (2009), poor health is closely associated with homelessness. For instance, even if one belongs to the middle or lower class in society, a serious illness will lead to a financial downward spiral starting from losing one’s job due to a lot of time spent away from work, usage of one’s savings to pay for medical bills and this can lead to one being evicted from his/her house and one eventually ends up in the streets where the person will become vulnerable to infections and
The paper is about homelessness population in the United States of American is said to be the richest country. However, there are millions of homeless people that research has data about and there are many that are not counted. The other homeless people live on the street (parks), under bridges, in cars, at family and friends homes so the magnitude of homelessness is a global epidemic. The reader should have a better understanding some of the major causes of homelessness, job barriers, where are the support systems? How to build self-worth after homelessness?
Homelessness is one the most ignored problems in the United States with citizen and politician. Homeless people are walked by and ignored. Nobody ever thinks that they will be homeless. Due to the economy, people live paycheck to paycheck making house payments very difficult. Most people will want to believe most homeless people are drug addicts or alcoholics, but most people will be surprise to know that it is no all true.
In New York City, domestic violence is a driving force in homelessness. This is especially the case among women and children. According to Steven Banks, the commissioner of the city’s Human Resources Administration, “the city has a gap in services for several years” (Stewart, 2015). Currently New York City 8,800 provides shelter beds and transitional apartments for victims of domestic violence (Stewart, 2015). There has been no addition in bed in homeless shelter for domestic violence victim and their children since 2009.
The issue of homelessness in America has been evident since the early 1600’s. Across the country men, women and children spend their nights on the streets not knowing when or if they will ever find a permanent home. States and federal officials or city councils have tried to alleviate or at least reduce the number of homeless over the last several decades at a city, state or national level but it continues to be an ongoing problem. There is a multitude of factors that account for the growing homeless population that affects each state in the country differently. Though there are many contributing factors that contribute to the amount of people living on the street at any given night in the U.S.
Disabled individuals, veterans and families are some of the demographic that is affected by homelessness. Physical ailments such as malnutrition, lack of hygiene, undiagnosed diseases and/or disorders can be detrimental. Mental disorders such as depression can develop due to the harsh circumstances of living on the streets. The lack of support, affordable housing and medical care that homeless individuals are receiving are prime examples of the need for compassionate and dedicated social workers to assist homeless individuals in regaining hope, purpose, and to evoke the strength within themselves. Living in shelters or public areas, homeless individuals are extremely resilience.
Increase the number of the free clinics that will provide some health issue. Homeless population are at risk for chronic illness making them vulnerable to volience and substance abuse. This population has limited access to resources; difficulty in essentials of daily living: food, clothing, shelter. Often these individual has an underlining mental health issues or substance abuse problems. They do not have support outside their homeless community.
