Source three is a World War I Australian propaganda poster created by the Australian State Parliamentary Recruiting Committee in 1917, focussing on the recruitment of soldiers, specifically sportsmen to volunteer to join the war as a method to replenish the front lines of the war in Europe. An associated message of the source questioned the validity and legitimacy of healthy, Australian men participating in sports while the other soldiers fought at the front in Europe. During the turn of the twentieth century a powerful fervor prevailed throughout Europe. Industrialization boomed, and nations soared to a brand new level of success never seen before. This aura of new achievements and new ideas kindled a nationalist flair among citizens and their countries. Whether it be from successes of the state, or the unification of a common culture despite existing political boundaries, the people experienced a new and thrilling sensation of identity. Such a flame unleashed rebellious sparks, igniting the “powder keg” of Europe, launching the Great War.
The beginning of the twentieth century was fraught with tensions in Europe. Nationalism, the belief that one's country is better than all other countries, led to increased strains between nations. Ideas of imperialism, the expansion of a country to form an empire, led to the creation of colonies in areas such as the far east and Africa. This frantic struggle for land also caused hostile feelings among the European powers. Many nations knew some form of bloodshed was imminent and formed alliances in preparation.
When World War 1 first initiated in Europe in 1914 with the European nations battling against each other, President Woodrow Wilson declared that the United States would remain neutral. However, after German U-boats began attacking and sinking American and other neutral countries vessels carrying innocent passengers and supplies, President Wilson urged Congress in his address to declare war. The two World Wars, World War One (WWI) and World War Two (WWII) are two paradigms of significant events that formed Canada. Without them, Canada would not be the nation it is today. WW1 is known as the first modern war because it saw the incorporation of mechanical weapons. The Central Powers and Allies both used a variety of weapons such as machine guns, chemical weapons , clothing, biplanes, artillery, tanks, grenades, and rifles. These weapons were state of the art for the early 20th century. These weapons caused casualties to skyrocket as the Allies and the Central Powers were in a stalemate.

There were plenty of Central Powers weaknesses, the Schlieffen plan, weak allies of Germany and their hard economic situation at the end of the WWI. However, it was not only due to these weaknesses, Allied Powers had a few strengths, that made them won. The most important of these are : greater army, control of the sea and support of the USA since 1917, while Germany was already running out of supplies and soldiers.
In Frankenstein, directed by James Whale, I believe the 'inciting incident' is a combination of events that happens shortly after we see Frankenstein's monster alive. The monster walks into the room while Frankenstein is talking to the doctor, who, of course, thinks the creature is dangerous and evil. Because of his scientific discovery, Frankenstein is like a child who just got a brand new toy that no other kid has. He is excited and showing off his monster. He attempts to prove the monster is harmless and childlike as the creation is only a few days old and is still learning.

After WWII, society took a drastic change for the better in America. America had just gone through the Great Depression, which was the deepest decline in America’s whole history and everyone was affected. Numerous people lost their jobs and were no longer able to afford basic necessities like a house, food, and water. Many could no longer support their families and had nothing. This was all in result of the market crashing, sending the economy into a downward spiral.

World War I is often associated with trench Warfare and battles on the land, with very little thought given to the importance of naval warfare. Beginning with the Anglo-German Naval Race (1898-1912), Germany began building up their High Seas Fleet to challenge the Grand Fleet (“Anglo-German Naval Race”). Britain had been the World’s only international naval superpower for well over 100 years until Germany decided to challenge their dominance. Shortly after the start of World War I, the Anglo-French Naval Convention (1914) was signed, which greatly shaped Allied naval strategy. In 1914, Britain put a distant blockade on Germany, which allowed them to control exits from the North Sea and damaged both Germany’s economy and War effort (Roskill 4: 533).
