Walden’s Mission, Vision, and Intended Outcomes Walden’s mission is to provide professionals with a learning environment in which they can develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to excel in a chosen field as well as to effectively bring about positive change in society. Walden maintains a vision that graduates of their programs will apply these knowledge, skills, and abilities to elicit positive change for the challenges faced socially, thereby improving the lives of others (Walden, 2015b). In addition to the mission and vision statements, Walden identifies outcomes for its students also centered on social change and competency. From professional and personal interactions with veterans in the community, a lack of knowledge of services as well as difficulty with procuring services through Veteran’s Affairs (VA) in a timely manner are major hindrances to accessing needed mental health resources. My vision for addressing this difficulty is to create a facility, approved by the VA, where military veterans can have all of their mental health needs met in an appropriate time frame. Services such as assessments, medication management, crisis stabilization, support groups, individual therapy, and group therapy will be provided. Additionally, case management services will be provided to assist veterans in accessing other available resources and referrals such as housing and benefit advocates. In all hopes, this facility will alleviate problems veterans have with accessing mental health services as it will provide a comprehensive, inclusive setting in which all their mental health needs are met in a timely manner.
