Wallace Wallace, the main character, is a untalented football player that is worshiped by his school and know threw out his town for winning last year's championship with pure luck. Even though he has terrible athletic skills he comes to the top and is a hero for many people in his town. Even though he is loved through the the town he has one thing that gets him in trouble a lot, he never tells a lie. He never tells a lie because when Wallace was young his father would lie constantly to his mother and to him. Since his father and mother would fight over lying they separated which brought Wallace's friend come and help him with some chores around the house.The problem Wallace faces is when he has to do a book report about, Old Shep, My Pal, his teachers favorite book. Fogelman put Wallace in detention for not writing a serious book report. Wallace refuse to say he likes the book so Mr. Fogelman forces Wallace to spend his day after school at the school's play practice instead of at football. His friend's on the team writes a report her Wallace so they can get their best player back. Since Wallace can't tell a lie he refuses his friend's offer. Wallace has to sit through the rehearsals and when watch he has ideas to make the play interesting and better. Soon Wallace gives his opinions which changes the script of the play. Slow the Wallace takes over the play with out anyone noticing until the end. At the beginning Mr. Fogelman was made with him changing the play but soon relies he is fixing the play. Throughout the book someone was pranking the play, the last prank had Wallace's old jersey so he was banned from the play. He knew it was someone on the football team, he found a video of some one stealing his jersey and that told him who has been pranking them.
