In today’s society it is believe that everybody is treated equal and there are no gender norms. However, if a person walks around in just an everyday Walmart you are able to tell how segregated the gender truly is. A person is able to distinguish which aisle is for the boy kids and which aisle is for girls. Each one consists of different type toys or the same exact toy but marketed differently to each gender. However, with doing this it displays to the child a way they are supposed to be and what type of things they should like. Moreover, does not give them more open minded to view things and believe either have to be feminine or masculine. I was able to tell by the difference in the toys. The boys’ sections consist of action figures, heroes, building things, sports, blue, camouflage, and more rugged look. While the girl side consists of dolls, playing house, cooking, princesses, pink, purple, and had a dainty look. The boys’ section encourages more of passive play and competition, whereas the girls’ section encourages girls to be more timid and girlie. This type of toys can encourage boys to become more into sports and always needed to be masculine. While the girl type toys encourage them to grow to be a house mom or wife and to stay in the feminine role.
