In Chapter Five, Bad Boy, Walter Myers explained that he became fascinated with baseball and baseball players. Walter had said that many street games were played outside on 122nd Street. He also said that his biological father, George Myers, had entered his life. Back in Chapter One, Roots, it said that his biological father had been divorced by his biological mother, Florence Dean. According to Walter, there had never been official paperwork to make his adoption legal.
In English we are reading a book about a court case called “Monster” by Walter Dean Myers. The book is about a boy fighting for his freedom in court. That boys name is Steve Harmon. Today my job is to convince you that not only is Steve Harmon is not guilty, but he is , completely innocent. My job is to convince you that everything said against him is well within the area of reasonable doubt.
In the novel Monster by Walter Dean Myers, we see a screenplay-style format to convey Steve's images in filming, and his notes written in a different font to show Steve's thoughts displayed in the book. Throughout the novel, we see the screenplay format to show Steve's life as a movie, which actively conveys his love for film and filmmaking. The book “Bad Boy” by Walter Dean Myers tells the story of a young African American aggressive boy, Walter who gets in multiple fights but uses the art of poetry, reading, and writing as an outlet. Walter Dean Myers is not just a boy who likes to fight he is an excellent poet and writer but struggles with speech problems which leads to his teachers, family, and friends to think he is not bright. Walter was moved up classes due to his impeccable writing, the only thing holding him back after reaching the higher class was his speech. Walter knew that his speech problems would be in the center of his life and effect what he does in life.
The book ended ambiguously and left the reader to question whether or not Steve was truly innocent. Because of the numerous questionable scenes/parts in the novel, I believe that Steve Harmon is guilty of being a participant in the crime that led to death of Mr. Nesbitt.
