In today’s society full of outspoken movements in a constant tug of war over superiority, rarely do you see a prominent figure switch over and become the face of the opposing party. Who would do such a thing one might ask, his name is Warren Farrell. Born Warren Thomas Farrell on June 23, 1943 in Queens New, York, he has a Ph.D. in political science, has worked with thousands of men and women groups, and is an author of many best selling books (Wikipedia, 2017). Farrell made his claim to fame in the early 1970’s by being elected to the board of the National Organization for Women (NOW). In the New York times article “ A New Role for Men: Victim : Former feminist Warren Farrell says he's sick and tired of guys getting bashed. 'Male power,' he proclaims, is just a myth” by Pamela Warrick” she includes comments from many prominent feminists unhappy with Dr. Farrell’s book. For example, “So outrageous, say some feminists, they can barely get through it. "He's certainly entitled to say whatever he wants, but this sort of biased rhetoric isn't helpful to anybody," says Diane Welsch, president of the National Organization for Women in New York City” and Betty Friedan had to say “Warren never was my role model for what a man who truly supported feminism would be," “who refuses to debate with or about Farrell because "I refuse to be used to give him credibility" (Warrick, 1993). Farrell’s book really sparked a lot of outrage in the feminist community and it destroyed any chance for him to be apart of NOW again. Farrell is also currently on the board of the National Coalition For Men (NCFM), a men’s rights group primarily formed in response to the 2nd wave of feminism movement in the 1970’s, which focuses on: removing stereotypes that affect men, boys, and their families, by helping men and boys change and shape a new image instead of the “traditional” gender roles (National Coalition For Men). Not all men but arguably most men have not gone through a big change throughout the years in large part due to the way boys are raised and the way society treats them.
