For decades farmer workers struggle to gain a voice in creating a union for the people. However, there was a man that managed to achieve such goal. Cesar Chavez was born in Yuma, Arizona, in 1927. He and his family was forced to migrate to California alongside with other Chicanos Americans and Dust Bowlers to find better work employment. Over the years, he made the effort to lead an upbringing to better the farmer workers’ environment and achieved many success. After realizing from picking grapes, there was nothing that helped and protected them from misfortunate so Chavez decided to create the United Farm Workers. The question is what were the undeniable reasons that made him such an effective person. Journalist Dick Meister said that, “Chavez grasped the essential fact that farm workers had to organize themselves.” (Doc A). Enforcing that the union is only for the ones who came straight from a family of field workers. If he would of allowed outsiders then the union would of been not for the people but other than publicity, thus creating the “grassroots” organization. Also in 1968, Chavez and other farmer works went on a 25-day hunger strike against the grape growers. At the end of the hungry strike, a photograph of Kennedy and Chavez with the people was taken. (Doc C). This photograph shows the difference between Kennedy and Chavez in leadership wise. Kennedy is dressed up in a suit while Chavez is not and he is surrounded by the workers.
