Graff wasn't justified in manipulating Ender throughout the book. What Graff did was wrong and Ender has every right to be angry with him. Graff took advantage of Ender's intelligence in an attempt to save the world from the buggers, but at the end of the day, Ender is a child. One way Graff manipulated Ender into becoming a better soldier was by putting him in high-pressure situations and isolating him. Graff and Major Imbu knew that isolating Ender was getting to him, saying “You’ve been isolating that boy. Maybe he’s wishing for the end of this world”(121). They knew that Ender didn’t like his life. This resulted in Ender feeling stressed because of everything going on around him. Ethically, a child shouldn’t be feeling extremely stressed at that age. A good example of showing how stressed out Ender was because of battle school is when he received the chance to leave. Ender’s trip to Earth was only supposed to last for a couple of days, but it ended up turning into over 2 months. He stayed in a cabin in the countryside and seemed very happy with his life. Ender wanting to stay for so long shows how much of a break he really needed. Ender is just a child. From the start of battle school, he was just 6 years old. When put into battle school, he was expected to make decisions and be a leader. How are children supposed to make military decisions? A male human brain does not even fully develop until your mid to late twenties. Ender was tasked with leading a platoon when he was in command. He led the platoon through battles against the buggers. Unknowingly, he was fighting off the buggers that entire time. He sacrificed some of his men to kill more buggers. Those men died and Ender at such a young age has to comprehend that he killed people unknowingly. Was it for the greater
