Debate amongst scholars pertaining to those who are responsible for the Second World War is complex and must be examined thoroughly and carefully in order to come to a logical conclusion. People have numerous arguments for who started the war; Some argue that Georges Clemenceau and David Lloyd’s harsh penalties in the Treaty of Versailles set in motion the forces and factors that lead to the beginning of the next war. Others argue that it was Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler that ultimately lead to war. Yet in spite of these arguments the simplest answer is usually the best one, Hitler was the cause of World War 2. The systematic pattern of hostility and disregard for promises displayed by Hitler clearly shows that he was an aggressive and deceitful man who was prepared to plunge his nation into another great war. After the end of WWI Hitler voiced his anger towards the Weimar Republic, painting them as betrayers of the German people. The first act of aggression displayed by Hitler was his march on the Rhineland, a demilitarized region between France and Germany that served to protect France from another German invasion. The elimination of this buffer zone would only be the beginning of growing tensions between Germany and the rest of Europe.
