Susan B. Anthony, a women’s suffrage activist, was an important historical figure in the United States. Susan, along with other social reformers like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, were the pioneers of a major turning point in history. Susan being one of the leaders, is considered to be the one that became one of the country’s hero. Now although many people do not consider her a hero; they are actually cynical and see her as a villain. Many did not value the great changes she fought for and brought to this country.
Susan B. Anthony was born on February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts. As she grew up, she started noticing differences in how she, along with other women, were treated. She noticed that women were treated unequal to men, which consequently, led her to join the women’s rights movement …show more content…

During 1866, Anthony founded the American Equal Rights Association and two years later, published the newspaper The Revolution. In this newspaper she states "Men their rights, and nothing more; women, their rights, and nothing less," and the aim of establishing "justice for all." All she really wanted was equality between all human beings. After Congress passed the 14th and 15th Amendments, Susan was very upset at the fact that women (white and colored) were not granted the same rights as colored men were. Black suffrage had faced brutal opposition from the South, but they still got their rights. Susan’s argument was that if colored people could obtain their rights, why could women not have them too? It was as if they were finally living like civilized people but far from equal. She would come to state, "My right as a human being is as good as any other human being. If you have a right to vote at 21 years, then I have. All we ask is that you should let down the bars, and let us women and Negroes in….” Her voice was outspoken and eventually had an influence through the National Women Suffrage Association, which eventually led for the 19th
