I’m going to tell you why I think the movie “The Patriot “was historically inaccurate.I’m going to give the best evidence you ever heard of.I hope you learn something new.If you have not heard of The Patriot well you going to learn about the patriot.The movie is about the Revolutionary War.Now i’m going to give you some evidence.

In the movie 5 shillings for every month of service and freedom were given to slaves who fought for the Continental Army. This did not happen during the war. The French were only shown helping the Continental Army at Yorktown when in reality the French had helped well before that. A more fact based inaccuracy was the cannonballs. Cannonballs in that time period did not blow up, they simply "mowed" through rows of enemies. Also the French helped much more than the movie shows. They stopped the British from sending fresh troops and supplies to America. The most inaccurate thing in it is when Mel Gibson and his two 10 year old sons wipe out about 25 redcoats without suffering a single scratch.

A note on black soldiers. Washington's letter was written in early 1776 and was meant to stop recruitment of blacks at the time. It did not kick any Blacks currently serving out. However later in the war, immediately prior to the main fighting in the south, an entire regiment of Blacks served in Newport, RI and reportedly saved John Sullivan's retreating army. The main character is your typical "good guy" who treats all his plantation workers fairly and kindly. In reality all of the African american people on his farm would of been slaves. Also the British army didn't go around burning churches filled with children for fun. Remember the colonists were their countrymen and some redcoats were very reluctant to fight their own blood.I got this information from
