Was the United States justified in dropping the atomic bombs in Japan at the end of WWII? FLASH and BOOM! On August 6th, 1945, America dropped the deadliest bomb, atomic bomb, on Hiroshima to end the WWII. Three days later, they dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki. They were attacking western part of Japan. They were putting pressure on Japanese government, who are in Tokyo, which is eastern part of Japan to surrender. Japan surrendered soon after attacks of atomic bombs. America’s decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan was correct because the Operation Downfall would have resulted more casualties, it ended the war quickly, and it provided information on how to react to atomic bombs in future. To begin with, there would be more casualties if Americans didn’t drop the atomic bombs. Operation Downfall, back up plan of atomic bombs, would have caused more casualties to both Japanese and American soldiers based on estimation of death by battle of Iwo Jima (Source3). Also, Japanese would follow code of Bushido, and ritual suicide to prevent from surrendering (Source 5).Although if Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not bombed by atomic bombs, these two places would firebomb anyway (Internet). Japan surrendered six days after Nagasaki was bombed (Source1). Also, Operation Downfall would take more time to end the war, because American soldiers first have to go Japan by ship or airplanes, and invade Japan. It will take more time than drop two atomic bombs by few American soldiers (Source3). And, Japan refused to surrender although Germany already did.
