Did Shakespeare really write what we give him credit for? As many people know, many predict that Shakespeare wrote all the work that has been credited to him. In his short 52 years of life, he is reputed to have authored 154 sonnets, 2 epic poems, and 37 five-act plays. However, the question that everyone asks himself or herself if Shakespeare really wrote all that has been a controversy for many years.

However there isn't any proof that he did either. TIME states, " The Anti-Stratfordians point out that nobody even knows if that's how Shakespeare spelled his name: the only surviving examples of his handwriting are six scraggly signatures spelled several different ways. It has been agreed upon between both sides that the Shakespeare of Stratford went to grammar school- the equivalent of elementary school if you live in America- but that is where the disagreements start. According to Simon Schama, Stratfordians believe that Shakespeare possessed the capability to write his extraordinary plays because he studied works of classic literature written by authors such as Cicero, Virgil, and Plutarch. Since Stratfordians believe that ”most of his plays were adapted from earlier works,” he could have been creative enough to write all of the works in his name (Farouky, 2). On the other hand, the Anti-Stratfordians say that there is no proof that the Shakespeare of Stratford was even literate, as there are only 6 surviving copies of signature, all of which are almost illegible (Shakespeare Oxford Fellowship,1). Some of these signatures are even spelled differently than the rest.
Shakespeare was a very successful poet,playwright,and one of the best during the Elizabethan age and maybe even the best writer in the English language. After reading all of the sources, many of them suggest theories about how Shakespeare didn’t write any of his works. They also suggest others who may have written them. In the sources, “Who was William Shakespeare (Parts 1-3)”, it states that Shakespeare wasn’t part of the royal court and didn’t have a very good education. No other writer’s plays have been produced so many times or read so much in so many countries as his. Shakespeare is known for his unique and complex style of writing. Some of his most famous works include Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, the Tempest, and Hamlet.
Biographical Summary Shakespeare is an incredible playwright and author, however it was difficult for him to become as successful as he is. Shakespeare was born to a family in the middle class. So, he did not attend university or get a mentor to teach him. He did not grow up with money, nor did he marry into it. He was not a lead in any plays, and the only reason he was able to make successful plays was because royalty favored his writing.
