Washington D.C was founded on July 16, 1790 by George Washington; it was established by the constitution to serve as the nation’s capital in 1800. Since George Washington, was the first president of the United States the nation’s capital was given his name. He chose the site and appointed three commissioners to help prepare for the arrival of the new government in 1800. In 1800 the federal government consisted of 131 employees. From the beginning it has been embroiled in political maneuvering, sectional conflicts, and issues of race, national identity, compromise, and of course power. Washington, D.C sits along two main rivers the Potomac and the Anacostia rivers; which served as regional shipping centers for tobacco and wheat. From bed and breakfasts and restaurants to parks and museums, tourism touches every corner. Washington, D.C is one of the most popular cities to visit and has many attractions to see. According to Destination DC in 2013 Washington, D.C accounted for 19 million visitors, which set a new record for the city. The travel and tourism spending in Washington, D.C supports 75,741 jobs and supports $3.65 billion in wages annually in the cities creating more job opportunities for the community. If Washington, D.C did not encourage and promote tourism, the District would need to generate an average of $2,444 in local taxes from each house hold. The District’s domestic spending was up to $4.9 billion while the international spending was only $1.8 billion in 2013. Each Washington, DC visitor generates about $352 in expenditures, every 258 visitors creates a new job in Washington, DC. Each visitor creates about $68 in tax receipts, $37 of which goes to local
