In the novel, The Watsons go to Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis, Kenny wonders why his brother Byron is so mean to people. Kenny does not treat others better than Byron because he laughed at Rufus and Cody, he was teasing Byron when his lips got stuck to the mirror, and he was complaining when he had to take off his little sister’s winter clothes at school. On page 43, when Larry Dunn makes fun of Rufus and Cody, Kenny laughs at them, too. A true friend could have stood up for Rufus and Cody.

I will write about how Kenny treats other people better. For starters, when Kenny is in lunch and Rufus sits next to him, he shares his meal when he notices Rufus does not have any food.
Brother sometimes fight but they eventually get over them as time goes on. In the book Watsons Go to Birmingham -1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis,one of the main characters, is becoming an average teenager and gets in arguments with Kenny another main character. However as time goes on they realize they need each other during horrific event that place, as they take a journey to Birmingham, Alabama. Kenny and Byron’s relationship in the beginning of the story was skeptical,their not always liking each other and their not always hating each other. In chapter 4 Froze up southern Folks,”Byron helps Kenny stand up to Larry Dunn, but also gives Kenny a pop in the stomach for not hitting Larry hard enough when he had the chance”.

There are major personality differences between the boys including the way they treat other people. Kenny is a gracious and generous person who cares about people’s feelings. Byron is a bully that enjoys picking on people and beating them up.
Family: You Never Know What You Have Until it is Gone Throughout the memoir “A Long Way Gone”, Ishmael told how he lost his family in war, through this experience he realized that his family is crucial to his happiness and well being, he also learned that he could form other family bonds with different people. “I wanted to see my family, even if it meant dying with them” (Beah 109). The definition of a family is not limited to blood relation, other loved ones can be family as well.

W-O-W Byron sure is one wild ride! In the book The Watson’s go to Birmingham there are two brothers by the name of Byron and Kenny. Byron has hands down shown a tremendous change in his attitude and behavior… Leading to him always wanting to be the instigator of the family, giving his parents, inadequate temper, and at the end he assuredly became courteous and loving to his family.

He arrives to work and see's Pino, his coworker, and son of Sal, give him a dirty look and said, " you are late". Pino is a racist person who does not like black people and does not get along with Mookie. In contrast, Vito is a nice and respectful individual who is friends with Mookie. It is with these four individuals that Sal's pizzeria had become so well known in New York. Sal is a person who likes to help everyone and is a well-rounded individual.
Desire is the need for an object, a feeling or a person. One can have a desire for something that is essential for survival, such as water or food, but desire could be used to harm others or oneself. Through A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, Ishmael’s perspective of desire was altered dramatically. These desires were changed from his surroundings or events that were taking place. In the book, Ishmael was easily manipulated by his desires.
The support of friends and family can help contribute to a character's ability to overcome difficulties. In The One Safe Place by Tania Unsworth, Devin was able to overcome his problems with the help of his friends and family. Devin's grandfather helps Devin overcome his difficulties throughout the story. At the beginning of the book, Devin was struggling to take care of the farm on his own when his grandfather died and remembered his grandfather once said: "' You'll go there someday too, Dev.' His grandfather had told him 'When you're ready to leave.'"
I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I finished the book. The story is about three children that spend the summer together in Maycomb County, Alabama. The names of the children are Jem, Dill, and Scout whose age’s ranges from seven to ten in their first summer of the book. As the book moves on, they learn about the neighborhood legend that lives next to them, Boo Radley. As a young adolescent, Boo was in a gang, and their gang once got in trouble, and they were sentenced to go to jail.
“Two Kinds,” by Amy Tan, essentially revolves around the struggle of Jing Mei and her constant conflict with her mother. Throughout her life, she is forced into living a life that is not hers, but rather her mom’s vision of a perfect child; because her mother lost everything, which included her parents and kids, so her only hope was through Jing Mei. Jing Mei’s mom watches TV shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show, which gives her inspiration that her daughter should be like the people and actors. First her mom saw how on the television a three-year-old boy can name all the capitals of the states and foreign countries and would even pronounce it correctly. Her mom would quiz Jing Mei on capitals of certain places, only to discover that
“Am I a hero, or am I a criminal?” He said to police man. This is my favorite moment in the film of “The Imation Game”. I didn’t even know who he was before I saw the film. But after I watched the film, I am really like him.
