Responsible for importing and distributing lawn and garden supplies, Wave North America, Incorporated requires a delicate sense of negotiating and diplomacy. To appropriately establish a connection with its suppliers, this company needs good purchasing managers. Wave N.A., a small company, employs two people: Jeff Schipp and Michael Kane. The two men are the sole purchasing managers of the international company. THESIS STATEMENT HERE According to America’s Career InfoNet, purchasing managers “plan, direct or coordinate the activities of buyers, purchasing officers, and related workers involved in purchasing materials, products, and services.” (Occupation Profile: Purchasing Manager) In addition to investigating import costs and economic statements to decide on rational prices for buyers, procurement and supply managers must be able to judge and adjust to the ever changing economic conditions; furthermore, the supervisors have to remember to keep safety as one of their most important considerations. Jeff Schipp of Wave N.A., said that although his work environment is “very casual,”the employees also have a multitude of duties as the company only employs Michael and him. He and his coworker tend to make two to three trips to China annually, and each trip tends to last between ten to twelve days (Schipp, 2016).
