Columbus Day is an American and patriotic holiday celebrated in all 50 states of the U.S since 1971, when congress passed the law. America should not continue to celebrate Columbus Day because he brought cruelty, heś been given false credit, and the legacy of the day is not as wonderful to Native Americans and African Africans. With ¨discovering” America, he also brought cruelty to the the indigenous people because he tortured, killed, and encourage his men to rape the native women. There are things that he didn't even do and he was still given credit such as discovering America. The legacy of the Columbus Day is not as remarkable to the Native Americans and African Americans because it just reminds them the cruelty that happened. Columbus Day should not be continued in America because he brought cruelty and torture while he ¨discovered¨ America. He let greyhounds be unleashed and prey on one hundred Indians. Columbus didn't really discover America since there were already millions of people already living there. In the article ¨Why We Should Abolish Columbus Day¨ it says, ¨ The American Heritage Dictionary defines ¨discover¨ as ¨to be the first to find, learn of, or observe.¨ How can anyone discover a place which tens of, millions already know about?¨ There were about millions of people there, living there, and Columbus gets the credit for ¨discovering¨ America. He was also credited for having illusions about finding Asia during his voyage. This was false because he already had some knowledge of ¨new lands¨ across Atlantic. He was also not the only one to believe that the Earth was flat, there were also other Europeans believed that as well. In the book, Inventing the Flat Earth, it says that there were Europeans in Columbus´ time that actually did believe that the earth was not
