Patricia O 'Brien 's article on We should stop putting women in jail. For anything is not practical. The article title was misleading and the article focused on women should not be incarcerated for nonviolent crimes and getting rid of women 's prisons. The examination of women in U.S. prisons reveals that majority are nonviolent offenders with poor education, little employment experiences and abuse from childhood to adulthood. She said the United States is a prison nation and have more than 1.5 million people incarcerated. The article said there are fewer women in prison than men, women account for only 7 percent. She just stated the program coordinator told her the percentages, so credibility wasn 't verified. The counter argument is the same could be used for males in prison. Males who commit nonviolent crimes should not be incarcerated but enrolled in these special programs also. Men are needed for support of children and prison aren 't designed only for males because males aren 't the only one that commit crimes. O 'Brien seem passionate about the article and expressed ways that women can be enrolled in different programs instead of being incarcerated for nonviolent crimes. Man may have felt that she was being a sexist and the title was misleading because she focused on nonviolent crimes and the not overall "for anything" scenario. The article said 147,000 children with mother is in prison but how many fathers are in prison? If the prison can 't be closed down she want the expansion of prison to be slowed down by identifying women are needed in the community but if women have committed crimes, they aren 't going to better the community but harm it. O 'Brien concept of not incarcerating women for anything and shutting down women 's prison cannot be done and she wasn 't able to suggest with credibility that it will be a good idea for nonviolent crimes with evidence,
