Can you believe that the Harlem renaissance happened in the 1920s and ended in the 1930s? Through those years colored people weren't able to express themselves or their culture. The poem, ¨We Wear The Masks¨ written by Paul Laurence Dunbar is about how black people or any colored people wear a mask to hide their identity from other people. Then the poem, "Mother to Son¨ is written by Langston Hughes, is about how life can get hard but to never give up no matter how hard it gets. Also the poem, ¨Craciple of Champions¨ by Nikki Grimes was about the community and she used her method the golden shovel. This poem means that people would wear masks to be protected by other people. Also, this poem shows that the black community tries to hide their identity in the Harlem Renaissance, because they knew they would get no respect if white people saw their color. This poem helps bring out the best in people because it shows them that colored people didn't have it easy in life back then. Next I chose the poem Mother to Son written by the poet Langston Hughes about how collaboration and the community would help to bring out the best in some people. In this poem it talks about crystal stairs and how you shouldn't give up. It also talks about how life can get hard and that no matter how hard life can get, never give up. This poem helps take out the bestin people because it makes them know/realize that life wont always be so easy and that it will be ruff.
