For my summer reading assignment I decided to read the book “We were Liars” written by E. Lockhart. This book is about a group of friends named whose family calls them the four liars. Their names are Cadence, Gat, Mirren, and Johnny but Cadence is the main character in the book. Cadence, Mirren, and Johnny are cousins but Gat is Johnny’s friend who first came to the island when he was just eight years old. The liars spend every summer on their grandfather’s private island called Beechwood. Gat comes to Beechwood every summer, and ever since Cadence met him she knew she was in love with him. Summer fourteen was when Cadence was at her happiest because that’s when her relationship with Gat began. Sadly, her happiness does not last for very long because when she came back to the island for summer fifteen, she saw Gat putting a dried beach rose into an envelope to give to another girl back home and Cadence was absolutely heart broken. The only thing Cadence remembers about that summer is sitting on the beach half dressed and alone. After her accident, she tried to contact the other Liars but none of them every responded. I found the ending of this book to be very tragic and sad.

The ending of this book was extremely upsetting and tragic. While I was reading the book, I thought there was going to be a happy ending but the author put a major plot twist at the very end of the book. I thought that the plot twist made the book more intriguing even though the ending was very tragic. The most tragic part of the book was when Cadence finds out that the other liars died in the fire. I felt this was the most tragic part of the book because the other liars were her best friends and she lost them in an instant. Even though the ending of the book was tragic, I enjoyed the book very much and would definitely read it
