From my Micro-teaching experience I have learned numerous ways in which to ensure that students are challenged and openly involved in the lesson. I have especially learned how to ensure that students are being challenged in a clear and precise way while being set achievable expectations. For this write-up I decided to use one of my lesson plans, more specifically my week 11 lesson plan. I decided to use this specific lesson plan as I feel it is the week which I performed to the best of my ability and it demonstrates how I set clear and challenging tasks. The sources I will use throughout the time of this essay are; Essential Teaching skills third edition by Chris Kyriacou, Understanding student motivation by Timothy Seifert and Setting Clear Learning

With clear learning targets, teachers will be able to know what to teach the students and how to go about answering them. The teacher will also be more prepared for class activities. This ensures that an effective method of assessment is installed into the class, ensuring the students’ progress is monitored and reflected upon “with clear learning targets, teachers (a) know what to teach and assess, (b) are better prepared to plan appropriate instructional activities, and (c) can develop well aligned assessment systems for monitoring student progress”( Konrad et al (2014)pg77).
If a student is in a class in which the achievable expectations are too high, the students are not going to work to the best of their ability. Although a high degree of challenge is needed to keep the students interested, students will soon give up on the challenge and begin to misbehave or become involved in activities not relating to the class work. I ensured in my lesson plan that the students were not going to fall victim to this.
