“If there is no struggle, there is no progress,” these wise words were said by Frederick Douglass in 1857 during his West India Emancipation Speech. This quote describes what it is that people truly want; people want progress. However, progress is not easy to achieve. Progress requires a large amount of effort and sacrifice. It has been around since the origin of our human existence. Communication is a means of connection between people or groups. It is a way to exchange or impart information. It is what brings people together and what makes people feel connected. Communication is the essential skill which allowed mankind to rise to the top of the evolutionary food chain. The evolution of communication within our species played out over hundreds of thousands of years. Ancient humans communicated using primitive languages and physical cues known as body language. They then learned to draw on the walls of caves which allowed them to communicate with future generations. Our species continued developing communication technologies such as smoke signals, messenger pigeons, written language, the telegraph, telephone, and now the internet.
