American Companies Doing Business Abroad

Many people do not appreciate where most of the products they buy come from, especially if they are from big companies as Nike and Adidas. Most people will argue that other countries have their own laws and that the American companies should not intervene in their matters. However, American Companies should follow American laws when doing business abroad in order for them to have the same quality in their products, get a good reputation in their business, and protect the human rights of their employees.

Getting a better reputation means that the company will get even more customers, as a matter of fact, consumers may have more preference for that company rather than another with bad critiques. For a company to be successful and have a good reputation, especially if it has business in other countries, it must comply with the code of ethics that describes the mission and values of the company. Whenever a company becomes multinational, they impact the lives of thousands, if not millions, of people with their products and services. Therefore, when expanding abroad, it is very important that the companies correct the negative preconceptions they could receive, not to mention that, as a result of doing this, they earn respect from the customers and peers. No one should be allowed to exploit workers just to run a more profitable or efficient business. The employers from American companies in other countries should treat their employees the same way they would in United States. Not only the native Americans should be labeled as hardworking and responsible people, therefore, any person should be given the chance to prove his/her skills. If an American company is given bad comments about the way employers treat their employees, the company’s name, itself, would be affected as well. A picture or comment on social media can transform a company’s reputation very quickly, so it is important to apply a preventative approach before it reaches the board level.
