From the time we are young society weans us into believing that there are only two genders, male and female. Well at least in the United States of America. There was a point in time when being gay was unspeakable. If that was unspeakable a man acting like or trying to become a woman was just madness. If a person even let on that they felt like they were the opposite gender they were thought of as mentally insane. In America religion was one of the things that kept people from coming clean about their feelings. Parents teach us as soon as we are old enough to walk how a girl should behave and how a boy should behave. Sometimes, we get gender and sexuality mixed up, but gender is how we behave on a daily basis, it's not about sex, it's about identity. People In the United States usually think about gender from a biological standpoint, or a man being masculine and a woman being feminine. Biology is a subject that we take in school that teaches us about the body, and life. From it we learn that there are two sexes Male and Female. What we do with this biology is what makes gender. However in the world we live in it's not that easy. A woman cannot just start acting like a man out of the blue and expect to be treated and respected as a man. There are boundaries that are put in place so that society does not become chaotic. In America what makes a man a man is masculinity.
