The Cold War between Russia and the United States has led to a global age, with a world-wide economy, increased technology, outbreaks of devastating disease, and a rise in global terrorism. The conflict began in the years following WWII, when Joseph Stalin declared that war was inevitable during the UN Security Council Meeting of September 1945. After WWII Germany was divided into occupied zones, with Great Britain, the United States, France, and the Soviet Union each controlling a portion. Great Britain wanted Germany to be self-sustaining, rather than having to support it, but the western powers soon discovered that they had control of the people and industry, which Russia had control of the agricultural regions. The answer for the west was to have Germany united, so it could support itself and not require aid. Russia did not want Germany united, and went to far as to create a blockade between West Berlin and East Berlin, cutting off the city’s food and fuel supplies until 1949. …show more content…
