Foil is when a character that has qualities that contrasts with another character in order to highlight traits. Provided that characters don’t have to be complete opposites like good and evil, they can be characters that are similar but at the same time have different traits that seem small but end up being a big deal. It is in which those traits show later in stories and causes contrasting of traits. It’s very important to have foil characters in a story because then you hover different characters and character that are unique. Foil characters are unique to other characters if they are pairs. The Nurse has no filter unlike Lady Capulet. Lady Capulet was gone for mostly all of Juliet’s life, and the Nurse was practically Juliet’s mom. The Nurse goes on and on about Juliet’s virginity and how she wants her to lose it because then she will be smarter. Benvolio and Tybalt fight but Benvolio tells Tybalt that he just wants peace but instead Tybalt says that he hates peace and just wants to fight. Tybalt is hot headed but Benvolio is a peacemaker. Paris and Romeo are foil pairs because Paris actually asks Capulet if he can date or marry her but Romeo is a rebel and he just goes for her. Romeo doesn’t care if he has permission or not but he is in love and he claims that love is powerful and nothing can break it so he decides to go for Juliet.
