During the Civil rights movement there were a lot of conflicts taking place, The civil rights movement was a time where African Americans were struggling to gain the same rights as white Americans. The civil rights movement wanted to put an end to segregation and give equality to African Americans. It was a time where White Americans were not letting African Americans have the freedom of equality as citizens and a time of violent treatment. They both had different mindsets and were battling to bring this battle to peace and gain the same rights as white Americans. This event was more intense in the South, which was where African Americans were more affected. Most big events happened at Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. But also big Marches took place in 1965 from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Some of the events that happened based on the timeline were; 1954: Brown v. Board of Education which was to “ separate equal” ; 1955: Rosa Park; 1960: Ruby Bridges; 1961: Freedom Rides; 1963: March on Washington; 1964: Civil Rights Act; 1965: Selma March and lastly 1968: Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. ( Britannica.com) The civil rights movement happened because people were tired of racial discrimination and tired of the unfair treatment and wanted equal rights for them too. They wanted to fight for equal treatment, opportunities, and protection. It is a movement for justice and equality. Before this success, there were a lot of challenges and challenges faced. It was a long and difficult journey for those who were marching and protesting, but their courage and dedication worked out.
