To Kill A Mocking Bird The story of “To Kill A Mockingbird,” has many great lessons, racism, good and evil, not judging a person by their looks, etc. Harper Lee has stated in her book that Mockingbirds don’t do anything wrong and never kill them. Tom Robinson and Boo Radley can both be compared to mockingbirds, they both were wrongfully accused of being something they are not. Boo Radley is made out to be nefarious. Throughout the novel, Scout, Jem, and Dill make it a point to try and lure Boo out and try to talk to him. All the kids think that he is a deformed monster that comes out at night seeking things to eat. When Miss. Maudie’s house was burnt down and Scout was sitting on the curb a blanket is wrapped around her. Later she finally realizes that she is wrapped in a blanket that does not belong to her, it is suspected that Boo had wrapped the blanket around her and went on his way. One day, Scout walks by the Radley house and had found gum in the hole of the tree, not knowing who left it there she had taken the gum and all the other things that had shown up in the tree later on. “Boo was our neighbor. In the middle of the book, the town was quick to believe Mayella and her father, saying Tom Robinson raped Mayella. Atticus was then hired to be his lawyer with the African Americans rooting him on but the Caucasians attacking him and his family. Atticus said, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view — until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” Chapter 3, page 30. This quote works for Mayella and Tom Robinson. Mayella has had a hard life facing the abuse of her dad and Tom Robinson was just helping on their farm. Tom needed the money and was a kind man never wanting to hurt anybody, making Tom Robinson a harmless
