Dr. Jekyll expresses this when he states, “[A] grinding in the bones, deadly nausea, and a horror of the spirit that cannot be exceeded at the hour of birth or death. Then these agonies began swiftly to subside… [t]here was something strange in my sensations, something indescribably new and, from its very novelty, incredibly sweet. I felt younger, lighter, happier in body within I was conscious of a heady recklessness, a current of disordered sensual images running like a millrace in my fancy, a solution of the bonds of obligation, an unknown but not an innocent freedom of the soul.” (Stevenson 57).
Dr Jekyll could not control the evil side, because he had no good side of him. Dr. Jekyll is a doctor, who is respectable man, educated, reputable and has two side of human nature. He has conflict between evil and good side, therefore he willing to separate the two. He starts his research on duality of human nature, and he successfully releases his evil side, Hyde, which leads Dr. Jekyll to the tragic end in the end. Not many people understand where the concept of innocent and violence comes from. Some say it is from within and others believe that it comes from outside sources. In Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, evil is a trait seen in many different ways. Robert Louis Stevenson creates a thriller novel, incorporating horror, mystery, and suspense to lour his readers in. Although, innocence and violence are two opposites, it is evident in the novel, that they both come from within.
There are a number of differences and few similarities between the characters of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The differences between the two men are mental, physical and moral. They are two separate personalities. Dr. Jekyll is an extremely intelligent and sane man with many good friends, known for his kindness and affectionate nature. On the other hand, Mr. Hyde is less educated, detestable and a loner.

In the moment, I’d think that whatever I said and thought are my true feelings in the situation, and not realize that maybe it is not the best time to be making decisions. I have always hated how difficult it is for me to form rational thoughts when I’m in such bad moods, but it’s also difficult for me to back off and compose myself when I begin to say things I don’t mean. Unlike Jekyll, I have never desired to become my Hyde side. In the novel, the text reads “If each, I told myself, could be but housed in separate identities, life would be relieved of all that was unbearable; The unjust might go his way, delivered from the aspirations and remorse of his more upright twin; And the just could walk steadfastly and securely on his upward path, doing the good things in which he found his pleasure, and no longer exposed to disgrace and penitence by the hand of this extraneous evil” (43). Jekyll has the desire to split his soul into a “good” and a “bad” side, in order for him to experience the dangerous thrills in life while also guaranteeing that he will still be able to go to heaven because of his remaining good side.
Good, however, is shown to overcome evil, by the actions and events taken and that had occurred within the novel. The "evil", Mr. Hyde, being born of good, the evil deeds only present while the novel 's "good," Dr. Jekyll is not, and the novel’s end, where Dr. Jekyll deciding to not let his darker half kill any longer and makes a decisive and sacrificial decision. All of these point to this concept that good prevails and triumphs evil no matter the cost and no matter the strength or power of evil whether it be an overwhelming gap or a tiny little crack. Dr. Jekyll was a good man and a good surgeon, doctor, and scientist, but he was not without his own vices and set of foreboding dark impulses. These he found a hassle to deal with and also big troubles.
