What Are The Similarities Between Mean Girls And Macbeth

People are the same no matter the century. Shown in Macbeth, a Shakespeare play about the battle for royalty, and Mean Girls a movie about high school popularity. Mean Girls and Macbeth have many similarities such as character motivations, character personalities, and character development.
The characters Macbeth and Cady share the motivation of ambition. In Macbeth, he continued killing after he got the throne. Macbeth was reckless leading to his downfall. After the original plan was completed, Cady continued to destroy Regina. These characters' ambitions grew as they got more power leading to their downfalls. They both made the original plan in their stories and pushed the main character. Macbeth was unwilling to kill the king until Lady Macbeth told him to. In Macbeth she states, “When you durst do it, then you were a man… Be so much more the man”(Shakespeare 1.7). Lady Macbeth forced Macbeth to kill the king when he did not want to because she knew it would benefit her. Even though he did not agree Macbeth trusted his wife and thought that she wanted the best for him. Like Lady Macbeth, Janis convinced Cady to hang out with the plastics. She told Cady this so that she could get revenge on Regina. Both Janis and Lady Macbeth do not apologize for the trouble they have caused. Although they did not do the actual plan they compelled the main character to do the plan. While these characters are the mastermind behind the scheme, they feel guilt in different ways. In Macbeth the doctor states, “More needs she the divine than the physician. God, God forgive us all. Look after her. Remove from her the means of all annoyance And still keep eyes upon her”(Shakespeare 5.1). Lady Macbeth becomes crazy from all the guilt and can not handle it anymore. She was only an accomplice she has turned her husband into a murderer. Different from Lady Macbeth Janis is proud of what she has done. She makes an “apology” but is not heartfelt. In Mean Girls, Janis states, “God! I am so sorry Regina. Really I dont know why I did it. It's probably because I've got a big lesbian crush on you. Suck on that”(Mean Girls). Towards the end, she was seen as a hero for exposing Regina and apologized sarcastically. She does not feel sorry because she got revenge on Regina which is what she wanted.
