In the book, Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, Cassie Logan shows a lot of courage. White people in the 1930s discriminated the black people very harshly. Cassie Logan does something about that in this book. She had to show courage when she and Little Man got the dirty book at school, when she, Stacey, and TJ went into the mercantile, and when Mr. Simms threw her off of the sidewalk at Strawberry. Are you willing to take a whipping for your brother or sister. Well Cassie Logan was not afraid to stand up for what she thought was right. In the 1930s the white schools always got brand new textbooks. When the textbooks got in really bad condition they were sent off to the Negro schools. When the Negro school herd that they were getting new books they were very excited, but when Little Man received his book he was not that happy. She had to apologize even though she didn't want to. Also Big Ma, also known as Caroline, made Cassie apologize to Lillian Jean Simms. Before Big Ma got over to the situation, Mr. Simms had been already so fired up and angry at Cassie. Finally Big Ma got over there and Mr. Simms would not let them go back to Great Faith, Mississippi. On page 115 he said, “Not ‘fore she ‘poligizes to my gal, y’all ain’t,” After he said that he threw Cassie off of the sidewalk and that is when Big Ma, Cassie, Stacey, and TJ left the market and the mercantile store. In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, Cassie Logan shows a lot of courage, considering all of the outrageous events that she has to go through. She is a very strong little 4th grade girl and has gotten a lot accomplished from beating up Lillian Jean to making a point and arguing with a white adult, Mr Barrnett. She has definitely shown the most courage in the book and has definitely changed my perspective for that time
