The Crucible and McCarthyism are similar because they both name names of people,they had no clear evidence and they didn’t testify. They are both connected because in both documents A&B they named names of people and they falsely accused people of doing things they really didn’t do. Various components of The Crucible may be related to the Red Scare, more specifically McCarthyism. Senator McCarthy condemned communism and black-listed many famous actors and actresses as communists. When one was blacklisted under Senator McCarthy’s reign, they would never be hired again thus ruining their career and livelihood. This concept may be related to The Crucible as when people were accused as being witches during the Salem Witch Trials in Puritan New England, they would be shunned from the community and ultimately hanged. These women were hanged for being evil, thus connecting to the theme of human wickedness.
In “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, several innocent citizens were killed or harmed in some way for unjustified reasons. This is highly similar to the homicides that led to rise of the #BlackLivesMatter Movement. Throughout the past ten years social media has rocketed with hashtags and live protests in order to promote the current social-issues that have been overlooked. Thus creating the different movements to bring awareness to the situations and hope that the citizens will work to change and or stop these homicides from happening. In the writing of Arthur Miller he chose to place the focus of the book around the witch trials that took place in Salem in the 1400’s.

Although 1692 the Salem witch trials and the Red Scare were over 200 years apart, The similarities are striking. both trials used intimidation, fear, hatred, and false accusations to ruin innocent lives. Both trials resulted in terrible outcomes, with both ending with innocent people being put to death and shunned from society.
Accusations during this time equate to someone putting pause on life as everyone else continued on with theirs. The great fear of this accusation lead to acts of hysteria. Those accused would do anything to get out of it, even if it meant pinning the blame on someone else whom they know to be innocent. In Arthur Miller’s time, when the Red Scare was happening; they were accusing people of being a communist. If someone was being accused and spoke another person’s name they would automatically be accused. During this time it did not matter who the person was, even upcoming actors were accused and their careers ended. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in response to what happened during the Red Scare. In relation to the Salem Witch trials, the court was doing the same things to the Puritans because they had the power to.
When people are placed under an intense feeling of fear, they begin to commit actions they never thought they were capable over. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, a young group of girls commit witchcraft which eventually leads to the arrest of over 100 women. This is similar to a time in the 1950s when Joseph McCarthy accuses government officials of communism and that ultimately leads to hundreds of citizens losing their jobs. The Crucible reveals the similarities between The Salem Witch Trials of the 1690s and McCarthyism of the 1950s because it demonstrates how a society can be tremendously impacted by the feeling the fear.
Many events that took place during The Crucible very well still happen in today’s times. The political elections of today’s world mirror the accusations and assumptions of The Crucible. The circumstances of divorces and crimes also are similar to events that took place. Everywhere today it seems that accusations are thrown about.
The Salem witch trials proved to be one of the most cruel and fear driven events to ever occur in history. Many innocent people were accused of witchcraft, and while some got out of the situation alive not everyone was as lucky. Arthur Miller the author of The Crucible conveys this horrific event in his book and demonstrates what fear can lead people to do. But the reason as to why Arthur Miller felt the need to write The Crucible in the first place was because the unfortunate reality that history seemed to have repeated itself again. In the article “Are You Now or Were You Ever”, Arthur Miller claims that the McCarthy era and the Salem witch trials were similar and he does this through his choice of diction, figurative language, and rhetorical questions.
A way that The Crucible by Arthur Millar and The Holocaust are related is that one person is the reason for all the fear in The Crucible it was Abigail and in the holocaust it was Hitler.
