Each of the 3 sociological theories has a different view on the rising cost of higher education. Each one will refer to and focus on different aspects of power, inequality, and who benefits and who is harmed due to this. The Structural-Functionalist Theory/Perspective would point out that despite the rising cost, the function of transitioning knowledge from one generation to other is still the most important thing, despite its impact on students/potential students. The Conflict Theory/Perspective would take time to recognize the inequality in the education system and that the rising cost is another way that the rich and powerful are benefiting from the not wealthy from the interest rates on student loans.
