he U.S. 26th President Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City on October 27, 1858. In his political life Theodore Roosevelt started as the governor of New York. He then became the United States Vice President. Finally, He became the youngest man to assume the U.S. presidency position at age 42 after President William McKinley was assassinated in 1901. Theodore won a second presidential term in 1904 against Alton B. Parker. His vice president was Charles W. Fairbanks.
A facet of Theodore Roosevelt that was shown throughout his presidency was his environmentalist views. Throughout his presidency Theodore Roosevelt accomplished incredible conservation achievements. Roosevelt helped the National Park System grow exponentially during his administration. Theodore Roosevelt set aside five National Parks during his presidency including Mesa Verde National Park. Along with National Parks Theodore Roosevelt also created the United States Forest Service (USFS) in 1901. Through the USFS Theodore Roosevelt established 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, fur national game preserves and eighteen national monuments. All of the land he set aside for conservation during his presidency came to a mind-boggling sum of 230 million acre of public lands. Theodore Roosevelt was able to negotiate an end to the Russo-Japanese War, from this achievement he was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. Theodore Roosevelt also mediated international disputes involving Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Morocco. Theodore Roosevelt also took action in building the long-desired Panama Canal. The building of the canal led to many positive outcomes after the building.
