The Life And Artistic Career Of Vincent Van Gogh “Great things are not done by impulse, But by a series of small things brought together.” (Vincent Van Gogh famous quotes). Vincent van Gogh suffered through very many obstacles in his life but he managed to overcome them. Van Gogh struggled with his mental health throughout all his life, yet he still managed to create beautiful artwork. A lot of art work such as his most famous piece “The Starry Night.” During Van Gogh’s childhood , he faced many hardships, however, even though he suffered mental illness he achieved great things; tragically, his life ended too soon. Vincent Van Gogh was raised in a small village as the oldest of six children. He was born March 30, 1853. His father was a protestant pastor. He ripped off the bottom half of his own left ear while arguing with one of his close friends and supposedly ran after him with a blade. With the ear he cut off, he delivered it to a woman named rachel. He delivered it with a letter quoting, “Guard this object carefully” (“Vincent Van Gogh”). In 1889, he requested to spend a short period of time locked up in an asylum, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. He did this so he could be taken care of. A year later, Van Gogh took his own life after giving up hope that he would ever be cured or overcome his loneliness. Before dying, he refused to answer any questions the police officers asked him. Two days after allegedly shooting himself, Van Gogh passed away. His art career was a short one as it lasted only 10 years.
