The Civil War was caused by multiple variables during this time in US history. Some examples of how slavery impacted the Civil War are; the state's rights, the role of the federal government, and the economy. Disagreements between the North and the South were what caused many of the issues during this time. From the variations in the economy and the political and cultural differences, these conflicts are some of the few things that caused the North and South to repel each other. During the westward expansion, the tension between the North and the South grew more and more, and by the 1850s people knew that a Civil War was soon to come and that it would not be an easy thing. Slavery also affected all societies because of the kind of people that would be the ones to purchase the slaves. Normally it was the people that had money, and they were the ones that would buy the slaves and force them to work. Slavery was a big part of the economy back then because of the things that were being grown. For example, a lot of slaves worked on farms that grew tobacco, cotton, and sugar cane. The Southern states got to be the states that these supplies came from and were most known for. The Southern states became an economic engine expanding crops along the nation. All of the movements that were against slavery made the Southern states and the Southern people who owned slaves mad because they didn’t want to lose their workers. To rebel against the movements the South sent their Southern troops to South Carolina to withdraw from their membership in the union. The two sides of the civil war were the North, which was fighting for reunification to help free the slaves from being forced to work, and then the South which was fighting for independence. A lot of sources say that the main thing that the South was fighting for was the desire to “preserve the institution of slavery”. On April 12, 1861, the Southern troops and the Confederate troops fired on Fort Sumter in South Carolina's Charleston Harbor. This event is what is said to have started the civil war.
