A Closer Look at the Centre for Global Development The Centre for Global Development is a nonprofit think tank that focuses on the global development of the world as a whole. Utilizing the Cause Prioritization Tool available on Effective Altruism’s website, I was led to this organization with my beliefs about what I find most important in the world today. Starting with the desire to help others as effectively as possible, I was asked if I’m fine with working on uncertain projects. I answered yes to that. I was also asked if the work that I would do is focused towards the next few decades, or towards future generations. These projects tend to have goals that may often seem either hard to achieve, or straight up unfeasible, albeit very rewarding. Because of these beliefs that I hold, I was asked if I was interested in human rights, expanding human knowledge, preventing a global catastrophe, or something else. I chose to support the expansion of human knowledge which led me to the Centre for Global Development. I believe that this is due to the fact that I chose hard to achieve goals that may not often be measurable, but should affect the remainder of my life. It ties in perfectly with the idea of expanding human knowledge, as science is always filled with experiments and discoveries, the path to which isn’t always clear, but if achieved properly, it should have a significant impact on my life, and possibly future lives of the next generations of humans.
