“Si se puede” translated to “Yes, it can be done”, are Cesar Chavez’s inspiring words that encouraged Hispanics to step up and fight for their rights alongside him. He was a civil rights activist and labor leader who fought for Hispanic rights involving the farming industry. He grew up working in agricultural and could relate to how the government was being inconsiderate towards the farm workers. Cesar Chavez revolutionized the farming industry for workers in that he created United Farm Workers, influenced the making of laws and regulations protecting workers rights, and embraced the idea of peaceful protests.

Violence was never the answer with Chavez. “I am convinced, that the truest act of courage, the strongest act of manliness, is to sacrifice ourselves for others in a totally nonviolent struggle for justice." Chavez wanted to follow the steps of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. with nonviolent acts. Also, set an example for the people that brutality is not the answer to achieving goals. Chavez sacrificed his health to prove a point in his nonviolent path to success. “Imploring UFWOC members to rededicate themselves to the principles of nonviolence, Chavez began a fast.” By beginning a fast he showed people that one must suffer in order for everyone else to have everything. Pacifism was said to be stronger than a brutal fight by Chavez. “Some of the strikers equated nonviolence with inaction or even cowardice. Cesar believed exactly the opposite.” With many boycotts, marches, and fasting, in the end, Chavez and the farmworkers ended up winning. It was all because of his confidence and nonviolent movement.
