What Does Coyotito Symbolize In The Pearl

One of the most important symbols in The Pearl is Coyotito. I think this because Coyotito has many different meanings throughout the book. In the beginning Coyotito is the center of attention, and everything is done for him and for his benefit. In the middle of the book, after Kino found the pearl, Coyotito was still pretty much the center of attention but he shared his attention with the pearl. In the end of the book Coyotito was still important but he was not the center of attention. In the beginning of The Pearl, Coyotito was the center of attention. In chapter one when Coyotito gets stung by the scorpion, “Kino beat and stamped the enemy until it was only a fragment and a moist place in the dirt.” (p.7) Kino does this because the scorpion stung Coyotito and he is mad because he could not catch the scorpion. After Coyotito gets stung, Juana does not want to risk any thing so, she says “‘The doctor,’ she said. ‘Go to get the doctor.’”(p.9), this was an memorable moment because askig for the doctor was not a common thing that Kino’s people did at that time. …show more content…

When “the music of the pearl rose like a chorus of trumpets in his ears.”(p. this shows that the pearl is a very big part of Kino’s life at this point. When Kino says, “‘My son will go to school,’”(p.33) this shows that he remembers that he got the pearl for the good of Coyotito. These two quotes show that both Coyotito and the pearl are very big parts of Kino’s life right
