An In-Depth Analysis of the Movie “Eddie the Eagle”. This essay critically analyzes the movie “ Eddie the Eagle” directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Sean Macaulay and Simon Kelton. The actors who play main characters in the movie include Taxon Egerton, Hugh Jackman and Tom Costello. The movie is about Ski Jumping and mainly focuses on the Olympic ski jumping champion Taxon Egerton’s (Michael Edward) journey on becoming British ski jumping record holder. Eddie went on to hold British ski jumping record of 73.5 metres in Winter Olympic 1998 ski jumping competition in Calgary, Canada. However, motivational self talk strategies only work to enhance the performance if you are able to recognize cues in a timely manner. Moreover, self talk must be specific and matches your demand of the task leading to an enhancement in the performance. For example, one of the scene in the movie involved Eddie giving himself positive self talk before jumping. Eddie failed in performing the jump successfully as he felt very anxious looking down the hill and how high it looked. Moreover, Eddie did not recognized environmental cues around him in an efficiently manner which had a detrimental effect on his performance as cues words help us focused on the task and avoid distracting thoughts. This shows that the positive self talk Eddie addressed it to himself before jumping did not work as the self talk did not meet the demand of his task affecting his performance tremendously. Also, due to not being able to recognize cues effectively led to Eddie diverting his attention from the task to something else causing a negative impact on his performance. However, as Eddie started addressing the motivational talk in a sense which met his demand and recognized and utilized attentional cues on the right time leading to an improvement in his performance. Eddie was also able to self regulate his emotions and arousal levels effectively as he released all the negative
