In a nation that demands promises be in writing before they are honoured, the spoken word and its meaning is devalued. Almost every individual at some point in their life has been deceived. If you haven’t been deceived, you are one of the lucky ones. Not all deceptions are lies however, they can be twisted or ‘sugar coated’ truths. There are many types of deceptions that come in form of blackmail, catfish (false identity), exaggerations, euphemisms, etc. I personally have been deceived and have been the deceiver as well which is what I will explain further on.
In my ninth grade, I was in a boarding school called Columbia International College which was also notoriously known for their deception. I decided to be deceiving too, not to my friends or teachers, but to my parents. Learning from my experiences I had in grade eight which was being broke, I said to myself “I cannot be broke in my first year of high school”. With that motto I had at the back of my mind, I ended up succeeding. This was my way of getting what I wanted. Usually, in a boarding school, most things would be provided within hands reach, but I couldn’t get all provisions for example, clothes, edible food, etc. In my old school, I had to buy my own textbooks and my parents would provide the money to buy them. Because I usually talked with them through the phone and prices of textbooks are not on the school’s website, I would be the one to tell them the prices. For each textbook, I would add $50 on top of the original price and because I had 4 courses, I had $200 the surplus along with my
